Disznókő Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos 2009 (Hungary): the immortal Magyar nectar that the entire West envy

The Romans exported the viticulture to Magyarorszag, starting south of the Danube River. The Hungarian tribes assimilated this culture and expanded it through the Carpathian Basin. During the following centuries some grape varieties were brought in from France and Italy, being white grapes the best adapted. During the resistance against the Ottoman Empire the national red wine was the one that allowed Hungarian troops to win in the Eger siege (1552). During the Turkish time the liquor wine Tokaji Aszú reached a world-wide fame, being considered for Luis XIV of France "Vinum Regum, Rex Vinorum" (Wine of kings, King of wines).

When the Ottomans lost Hungary in favor of the Austrians, there was a germanic influence with the appearance of grapes such the Blauer Portugieser. In 1882 the Phylloxera arrives and gives a hard coup to the national viticultural panorama because it destroys the majority of his vineyard. This misfortune would be followed by others: the Trianon Treaty, the Axis Time and the communist era where, as in other countries, they opted for quantity and not quality. From the 90's Hungarian wine lives a revival led by the Tokaj-Hegyalja wines (7ooo Ha's and 28 villages). Currently Tokaji wine can only be elaborated with 4 varieties: Sárgamuskotály (Muscat little), Furmint, Zéta and Hárslevelü.

Visually a gold color with copper sparkles. His tears of great density announce richness in the mouth (120 gr residual sugar by litre). On the nose, a first hit for white bone-grilled fruit notes. With the passing of the minutes the complexity manifests itself when it adds ripe citrus, white flower like the jasmin hints or a subtle minerality. There is also place for an elegant of white chocolate touch (arome coming from the 2 years in 225 l. french and hongarian barrels). In mouth a sweetness entry, development of dense texture as the visual phase already announced. A great balance between freshness and roundness, which takes lead in the long end with a spicy touch. Complex mouthfeel aromas uniting citrus, mature peach, sweet spice like vanilla, smoked, oranger flower and orange jam. It is not heavy, it only has 11.5 % volume in alcohol.

In the northeast Hungary, 40 km south to Slovakian border is located Disznókő winery, of French capital. The botritys mushroom (porriture noble) can work successfully in the area thanks to the Zemplén mountains that allow only warm winds from Panonia to over-ripen the Furmint, Zéta and Hárslevelü grape varieties. The price of half a litre of this nectar of gods is in 35 euros / 11309 HUF / $ 39'8 . Like match I propose you a Foie gras farmed by Robert Dupérier (Landes, south-west Framce) cherry, pistachio, thyme. A cheese selection is my 2nd match: why not with Karaván (Hungary), Saint – Nectaire (France), Botón (Spain) and Bryndza (Slovakia). In 3rd match the beautiful woman company.
